Its major highways and all-weather roads provide easy and affordable access to Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and all points throughout the Midwestern United States. Flint is a historically significant city in Michigan. Its many unique features include; early home to several Ojibwa Indian tribes, original home of Buick and AC Spark Plug, home to Chevrolet's first manufacturing facility, and manufacturing site of early carriages. Flint is famous for the 1936 UAW sit-down strike, which ushered in the era of labor unions. Flint is home to the Longway Planetarium, the largest and best-equipped planetarium in Michigan, and is home to the Michigan School for the Deaf and Blind.
Beginning in the 1970's and 1980's, Flint entered into significant economic downturn caused by automobile manufacturing plant closings, loss of jobs, abandoned properties, declining tax-base, loss of essential city services and blight. Many of Flint's young and brightest minds left to seek better opportunities. Many of the City's elders left seeking warmer, brighter climates, taking with them their wisdom, knowledge and resource base. What was once the "Happiest City in America" and a bright, shining Michigan star lost its smile and its shine. Today, the winds of change blow over the City of Flint with the promise of restoration and rejoicing. New housing and apartment developments, downtown revitalization development, new retail stores, a thriving farmer's market, expansion of the universities including dormitories and the development of strategies to implement clean energy technologies, all signal the rebirth of this once great city. We invite you and your business to come to Flint, Genesee County, Michigan, the city of: Fresh Winds, Fresh Vision and Fresh Energy. |
